My favorite 1-60 zone has to be the Blasted Lands. What’s not to like about the Dark Portal looming and beckoning you to reach lvl60 to see what Evil awaits you on the other side! It is also home of some awesome quest chains and the Kum’isha quests are awesome for lvl50 players to get some awesome superior or rare items and I have been lucky enough to receive an Epic item from a Sphere turn-in!

The Blasted Lands is also a nice zone to build on some resource gathering professions as you level especially Herbalism and Mining. In fact it is one of the few zones that you can even obtain Gromsblood.

With Cataclysm the Blizz team made it even better with a complete revamp of the tainted scar for some more Naga slaughtering (who doesn’t love that?), and some new tameable pets for the hunters, as well as a killer Worgen town for the Allies to fly into. The Blasted Lands is an outstanding final zone before heading to the Outland!

For this granny I have to say I agree with dugi I really enjoyed going back and seeing the changes there and the storyline was absolutely fanstastic .And the acravan ride was something that was really different and had nice little chatsalong the way lol

My favorite 1-60 zone would have to be Stranglethorn Vale as well. All of the skinning for my hunter plus I love jungles. Jumping from the top of many of the waterfalls is a bonus too.

    • Zach

My favorite zone is stranglethorn vale because to me it brings back many memories of when I was in the 40s helpin my bro get arena master.

    • Eric Hendrickson

For me it is Westfall, this is the first area out of the starting zone for humans that gave me a challenge.

    • GrayW

My favourite zone right now actually has to be the Level 1 Starting Area for the Trolls.

They crack me up every time and it’s one of the best looking places I’ve seen for a starter area.

    • Ross Dupont

The blood elf starter zone has to be the best for me. I run out and get skinning and mining and then just run around doing the quests but every chance I get I kill and skill and of course mine. The best is the last tho, it is the dragon hawks, they must have a 90 to 100 percent drop rate on eggs. Eggs sell in season or out. By the time I hit lev 14 I am 150 to 200 gold in the pocket. I actually miss this zone as I level and have to go to the next one. And Of course it is one of the prettiest zones in the game, except for the small scar left behind. The quests are fun, the gold is easy and the country is nice to look at as are the BE females. I mean come on who likes looking at some undead chick with half her face falling off.

my favourite area has to be the original teldrassil as it brings back so many memory’s as it was my first ever zone , this has now been updated aswell for cata and the storyline is really brilliant with the fighting between the 2 factions , the area is really nice to look at aswell withy plenty of good quests

Wow pick a favorite zone, not sure I can pick just one. There have been so many special moments.

My first night in WOW yrs ago, I was given a trial account by a friend. I had never played an online game before started a human lock (my main) and wondered around the starter area figuring out what I needed to do. I made the mistake of entering Northshire Abby ….OMG its dark in here how are you supposed to find anything? Then I realized I was lost I couldn’t find the way out my friend wasn’t online and I was too embarrassed to ask someone else (poster child for someone in need of a guide arrow) Other people were coming in and out but they were all moving so dam fast couldn’t follow long enough to find the exit….. logged out. Next day figured out that I needed to turn the brightness up on my monitor….. painful.

Then there was the first time leaving Elwyn forest truly embarking on life as an adventurer. Westfall I’ve spent so much time there every toon had Blanches’ feed sack at one point, it’s a shame poor Blanchy had to die with the coming of Cata. And of course Westfall had my first instance, a level 18 frost mage took me and another friend through, he basically soloed the whole thing….. wow I can hardly wait to hit 18 so I can be a god too, little did I know at the time that it had more to do with skill than level, I don’t think I was able to solo Dead Mines on my lock until I was in the 40’s. And what’s with the whole need verses greed thing anyway isn’t greed bad? Spent the whole run hitting need on everything because in my mind that meant I would only get things that a lock needs…..wow…… locks are really versatile because apparently that can use every kind of weapon and hey they get to use mail too…… sweet.

Around level 16 Westfall was starting to feel a little small but hey there is a bridge to somewhere else……someplace called Duskwood kind of gloomy looking……then out of the woods comes charging a level 20 Dire Wolf, my what big pointy teeth you have…..Duskwood ………bad maybe there are still a few things left to do in Westfall.

One favorite zone well I guess I will have to pick…..Duskwood and why? Well several reasons. Of all the zones in wow it has always been the one that struck me as the scariest. Probably because it seems the most real, I mean in terms of the environment it is a place that could really exist. A forest shrouded in fog with big nasty wolves. Through in some ghost stories and some mutant spiders and voila Duskwood. The central town Spooky Hallow er Darkshire even has a covered bridge leading to it. You can just picture the headless horsemen chasing you across it.

In my early 20’s once the wolves didn’t seem so bad I remember questing on Raven Hill just minding my own business killing undead things when BAM I’m dead….. what the **** was that.

Mor’Ladim………. hits like a truck and OMG every time I turned around there he was. I couldn’t be on Raven Hill for more than a few minutes before out of the fog steps Mor’Ladim must have killed me a dozen times ***** rotten illegitimate ******** disreputable woman. How am I supposed to get my quests done! It was incredibly irritating made me so mad I promised him that this would not be the end of things!

At the time he was a level 35 elite I began going back for him every level after 38 finally killed him at 42 it was like winning the Olympics, he is the only NPC I have ever obsessed over. The day I hit 80 I did two things, I went and trained the last of my skills and went and killed Mor. Even now I absolutely cannot pass through Duskwood without stopping to kill him. In total I have killed him at least 40 to 50 times. If I could make only one change to wow it would be to let locks wear two handed swords….not use them just wear them so I could strut around wearing archeus as is it sits in my bank. Which brings me to my last reason for chosing Duskwood.

Duskwood has two of the best low level chain quests in the game. One leading to Stitches’ and of course the one leading to Mor.

Ok so I have already admitted to being obsessed but I might choose the quest Mor’Ladim’s Skull as the best quest chain in the whole game, at least lore wise. I have read that Mor follows a path through the cemetery that leads to his wife’s grave where he stands a little while before wondering off kind of makes you feel a little sad for him almost sad enough to stop killing the poor old guy who they have now stripped of his greatness taking 10 levels away from him……um well maybe not quite that sorry for him

      So yeah Duskwood.

Edit prior to posting…….I had never seen Mor go to stand at his wife’s grave before so I went to Duskwood this afternoon and found old Mor I followed him to a grave where he stands for a minute, but it is not his wife’s grave it is actually his own.

Before anyone asks…..yeah I killed him right afterward

Stormwind Stockade’s because you get to break into prison and kill the bad guys while getting rewarded for it (the loot).

As a hunter who started his journey back before Illidan’s hordes were given access to Azeroth, I’ve seen most of the world in it’s various forms. From 10 man Stratholme to 40 man Naxxramus, I’d been in them all, even if I hadn’t completed them. The challenges were immense, the leveling was slow, and the lore was still being defined, and it was always easy to tell who’d been to the end raids of the time–you simply had to see the gear.

These days, my favorite zone/dungeon still tends to be Blackrock Depths. The plethora of bosses, a tavern in the middle of the instance – I’m still waiting for the band to show up, by the way – and the way the map can be both an hour long adventure and a 15 minute screaming desecration of all things Dark Iron simply by the choice of path you take make this dungeon a keeper. The additional faction vendor who ONLY sells the best stuff from the Thorium Brotherhood, hiding in a back room of that same Dark Iron filled tavern, reminds me of all that the world used to be before the Cataclysm shook the world to its foundation, yet still shows promise of what a well designed dungeon can be.

      Hm..Winterspring for sure,cause i love the snow areas 😀

    • Nuno Pereira

My favourite area is without a doubt the new Westfall, I just love the feel that I’m in a CSI episode everytime I go there with a new character and do all the quests, it’s just amazing in my honest opinion!

    • Brad Williams

My favorite 1-60 Level dungeon would have to be the Deadmines. I remember the good and bad times i have had in that dungeon. 🙂

What’s your 1-60 favorite zone, you ask? Let me think here and traverse my mind. I’m 60 years old!! And to tell you my favorite zone would be like asking me to pick my favorite child. I’ve been playing WoW since.. %$#^& .. now that I’m wondering about that, all I can say is its been a very long and one of the most incredible journeys of my life. The real life friendships that have formed, the guilds that I have share experiences with, now those are stories to write about and tell my great grand children (LOL, they would have a hard time believing that a woman my age can even use a computer let alone play with these mainly 20 to 30 year olds). But, yep, I’m almost 61 now and up until a few months ago was raiding along with some really great folks. Most folks never knew how old I was and for the most part, I never told em.

So, with the intro started and I trust your attention grasped, let’s say my favorite 1-60 zone would be the most recent addition to the game “The Goblin newbie zone”. I loved that zone and the character so much, that she is now my main, now just reaching level 85 (Razcal). The thrilling part was the absurdities and the hilarious quests. I never laughed so much playing a newbie. My wig goes off to Blizzard for that zone. But one of the best parts was the memories that sprang up while using Duigi Guides as my mentor, keeping me focused as my lil ole mind wandered back into time when the zones looked different, the territory massively changed (to the betterment I might add), yet there were so many moments where I would just stop playing, be dazzled with the memories that would flood my mind, tears that would well up and wet my face, and my heart would be so happy with where I had spent hours of my life, with absolutely no regret. So thanks to you Duigi, these last few months have been one of the best, because of your guiding light and time you spent to give this lil ole lady the time of her life.

      Thanks Duigi for asking,
      Hugs and warm thoughts,
      Topi

I always thought Azshara was beautiful, but my favorite where I have the best memories from back in the day is Winterspring. I got my all time favorite pet there (Rakshiri – the blue green cat with the neon eyes) and that is where I wrapped up my quests for the old Hunter Bow/Staff set, Rhok’delar and Lhok’delar. I still have those weapons in my bank.

    • Eldurias

      My absolute favorite is ashenvale.

I do not exactly prefer a zone I favor more so over the rest. However, I have always chosen the Forsaken undead since Vanilla and enjoyed running in circles trying to figure out what I was doing in Tirisfal Glades. I can recollect when I began playing World of Warcraft six years ago getting myself lost in Tirisfal Glades. I had actually enjoyed the zone more than I should have and ventured out where I should not have gone and eventually get myself killed. When I started playing, not knowing where I was going or what was what or where, entering the zone Western Plaguelands at the level I was of course I would die instantly not knowing what the skull represented, though I eventually learned the hard way, like most of us have. Another part about Tirisfal Glades is the Undercity; the capital city of the Forsaken undead. Running in circles in there was always amusing to me. Falling in love with Lady Sylvanas Windrunner (heh) and liking Varimathras. I can also remember coming across Scarlet Monastery, trying to find a group before Dungeon Finder was added, it was some what difficult to find four other people for this dungeon. I was mainly a solo player since at the time I was not aware you could invite other players to be in a group. Then seeing other players coming up waiting at the meeting stone that was targetable; laughing and taunting. Thought to myself, let’s kill these annoying pests while I am waiting on the rest of the group to get to the dungeon. End up getting myself killed, then there was more players when I got back to my corpse and I was just screwed. Tirisfal Glades pre-Cataclysm was astounding to venture through. I would honestly have to say now post-Cataclysm, Tirisfal Glades has become a whole new experience and wish to venture through it as it is now back in Vanilla. Was some fun times that I surely will miss.

On a stormy day in the north arm of the San Francisco bay in the mid seventies hurricane force winds began to rip the roofs off of homes, causing structural damage to bridges, and basically making things unpleasant. In the tumultuous blasting and howling of these severe winds a small child was born to a couple still children themselves.

As a product of the seventies, with a hippie ****** and a rocker father who left when he was still in diapers this boy was raised by his ******, aunt and grandmother – the only positive mail role model, a young uncle who lacked a father figure himself. Over the years, this boy grew into a child, and this child into a pre-teen, and this pre-teen into a teen, and this teen into a young man, and this young man into a man, and this man into a husband, and this husband became a father, and this father became a father again, this time he had is own child.

Somewhere along the way this father of two children, husband, and yes man grew an affinity for role playing – maybe as an escape from the coldness of his reality, but most likely because his ******, the hippie, actually thought she was Galadriel when he was a boy and everything in his young life revolved around Tolkein.

This fondness for role playing let him to Dungeons and Dragons, and eventually to Zork, and eventually to Multi-User Dungeons, and eventually to every RPG he could reasonably afford. One day, with bitter disappointment from the promise of Questing forEver, Warcraft became a World and so his obsession, nay – casual affiliation with an interesting game that had to take a back seat to infants and a mortgage for a few years, was kindled and he said, “WoW!”

With his gaming skills finely honed into a mediocrity rivaled only by his athletic ability, he began a quest to figure out – what manner of gamer is he. Through depths of trials and a barrage of twentieth level burnout – no combination of race and class fit the guile, the guts, the glory that is this player – until a new evil descended upon the realm of Azeroth.

As the scourge came, revealing new players in Azeroth’s deadly game – this man began to sense his fortune change. With new combinations at his control – the perfect match came – the elf, because he loves his mama dearly, and the paladin, the one class where his questionable skills can be covered by strong defense and healing ability, and thus Azeroth would be blessed with his presence once more as a blood elf paladin.

As his powers grew slowly and he reached the dizzying heights of level 12 he ventured south from the enclave of the blood elves into the scarred wastes of Ghostlands – it is there that he found his muse. Gone were the days of enduring the endless, mind-numbing depravity and the endless worship of the Chuck Norris cult. For it is true that a new day had dawned, for those who stood long, and the forest did echo with laughter.

      • Aitrus

        Epic. I remember laughter.
